Works Cited:  Getting Started with Noodle Tools Citation System

Task:
  • Research your given topic.
  • Find relevant information that is biographical, historical, informational and visual
  • Create a “Works Cited” page using Noodle Tools on the Gelinas Library Blog
  • Your Individual “Works Cited:”   4 Citations Minimum
  • One citation must be a visual
  • One citation should be from the Virtual Reference Collection
  • One citation should be from the Gale Group Student Resource Center
  • One citation could be from the web, “IPL2,” which is the Librarians Index to the Internet and the sources are already vetted.
  • All other citations must come from a reliable, reputable source. .gov, .org, .edu
  • No citations are permitted from any “wiki’s” or “ask’s” etc.
  •  Noodle Tools Citation :
1)      Log onto Noodle Tools. If you have never used it, you will have to set up an account. If you have used it in the past, they may ask you to revalidate it.  Set up:

Personal ID ______________________________

User Name _______________________________

2)      On your home page, click on “create a new project” in the upper right hand corner.

a. For “citation style” select MLA
b. For “citation level” select Advanced
c. In the “Description Field” type in the name of the subject you are researching
d. Click on “Create Project”

3)      Once you have created your project, on your Dashboard, scroll down to “Components” and click on “Works Cited.”

4)      In the upper left hand corner, it will say “cite a”… and then it will give you a drop down menu.  Select the type of resource you are looking at.

5)      Fill in all the information available to you. (You won’t be able to find all the information they ask for—often.)  Keep scrolling and filling in.

6)      When you are done, click on “Submit.”

7)      To Print, click on “Print/Export.”  Export to “Word.”  Add a heading. Then print. Do not try to save it to your documents. The formatting becomes unorganized.  Your Works Cited will be saved in your Noodle Tools account, which you can access from any computer! (If you go onto the Gelinas Blog).

***If you are feeling adventurous, explore the “Notecards” feature. Excellent for quotes and notes.
