Getting Started, Works Cited, and Notecards

Getting Started
  1. From the PJ Gelinas information center, log onto NoodleTools:

    PERSONAL ID: _________________________

    PASSWORD: ___________________________

  2. On your homepage, click on “create a new project” in the upper right hand corner.
    1. For “citation style”, select MLA.
    2. For “citation level”, select Junior.
    3. In the “Description” field, type in the name of your assignment.
    4. Click on “create project”.

  3. The Dashboard Screen
    1. Type in your research question, and then click on “submit”.
    2. “Share Project”:
                                          i.    Under “Assignment Drop Box”, type in the name of your assignment.
                                        ii.    Enter your first and last name in the next box.
                                       iii.    Click on “share project”

Works Cited & Notecards
To create a notecard, you must first create your works cited page. This will turn into a list of all the resources you use over the course of the paper.

  1. On your dashboard screen, scroll down to “components” and click on “works cited”.
  2. On the upper left-hand corner, it will say “cite a”… and then it will give you a drop-down menu. Select the resource you are looking at.
  3. Fill in all the information available to you for your resource, and then click on “submit”.
  4. Your citation will now appear in the works cited screen. Under “notecards” (towards the middle), Click on “new” (it’s a blue hyperlink).
  5. Fill in the title of the card… what’s it about?
  6. Fill in page numbers or URLs if you have them.
  7. If you are using the author’s own words, fill in the “direct quote” box on the left.
  8. If you are putting the information in your own words, fill in the “paraphrase or summarize” box on the right.
  9. If you have any original ideas or thoughts about this notecard, you can write them down under “my ideas”.
  10. When you’re all done, click on “save”.
  11. Once you have a few notecards, you will begin to see patterns in your information. You can create tags for similar card ideas. You can type in a tag, and once you have it, you can select the tag in “my tags” for other cards later on. This will help you organize your thoughts for your
