In the late 1800’s the United States began to embark on a “new” policy of expansion that would change US history forever. During this period of Imperialism, the US sought to extend its influence overseas, capture new territories, create new markets, and increase our nation’s global prestige.
 
Directions :
Form into groups of 2 or 3. Next, choose a topic from the list of Imperialism Terms supplied. You can choose directly from the list, or you may choose a sub-topic from something you are curious about. Be sure to see me for approval if you stray from he list. You will use the classroom textbooks as a starting point but your research hould go well  beyond textbook level insight. Laptops will be available in class to aid in your investigation. Your task will be to research, write, prepare, and deliver a 20 minute sson that will teach the class about your topic. Each lesson will include (at least) a 6 slide PowerPoint presentation to supply notes to your class. You may also do additional activities with the class beyond the PowerPoint – but you must supply the class with good notes first. Students will be required to use at least two library sources and cite at least one source and provide at least one notecard using NoodleTools.

Each PowerPoint must include the following:
Notes – well organized, clearly worded and presented and properly formatted.
Highlight important vocabulary and integrate those terms into your presentation.
Visual learning aids are a must – pictures, photos, maps, etc – items that you think are interesting/important and will aid in the comprehension of your topic by your class.
Discussion of all key individuals related to your topic.
Discussion of all key events that are notable about your topic.
Include any significant date(s) or turning points associated with your topic.
A Works Cited Page identifying the source(s) of your information. 

Notes :
While conducting your research and gathering assets, you will need to store the various documents, images, maps, paintings, photos, etc., that you uncover into your school network folder or on some for of external USB storage device that you can plug into the laptops. After you have completed your research, written text and collected images/media – you will move onto the next step – creating your PowerPoint and other materials you think will be necessary to teach the class. If you are unfamiliar with PowerPoint please see me. Finally, you will make your presentation to the class on your scheduled day. NO EXCUSES. On your presentation day, please have your final project saved and available so that I may have a copy of it for reading/grading purposes. Remember that your final presentations should be historical, informational and interesting. Have fun! Be creative!
