Background: Imagine you are an American war correspondent from Long Island covering the Great War in Europe. The year is 1916. You have been allowed to live in the trenches with a British army unit in order to get a first-hand look at what the war is really like. Your readers back home are very interested in understanding
what life is like for the ordinary soldier.
Task: Using the notes you have taken from the films of life at the Western Front and the materials on trench warfare and the weapons used during the war, write a newspaper article describing the lives of soldiers in this “War to end all wars.” Incorporate images of your own creation or from the time period which will be helpful in telling your story.
Web Resources: Use Moodle to access web resources which will help you in writing your news article.
Grading: This article will count as two quiz grades and be graded using the rubric on the back of this sheet.
