To create a notecard, you must first create your works cited page. This will turn into a list of all the resources you use over the course of the paper.
- On your dashboard screen, scroll down to “components” and click on “works cited”.
- On the upper left-hand corner, it will say “cite a”… and then it will give you a drop-down menu. Select the resource you are looking at.
- Fill in all the information available to you for your resource, and then click on “submit”.
- Your citation will now appear in the works cited screen. Under “notecards” (towards the middle), Click on “new” (it’s a blue hyperlink).
- Fill in the title of the card… what’s it about?
- Fill in page numbers or URLs if you have them.
- If you are using the author’s own words, fill in the “direct quote” box on the left.
- If you are putting the information in your own words, fill in the “paraphrase or summarize” box on the right.
- If you have any original ideas or thoughts about this notecard, you can write them down under “my ideas”.
- When you’re all done, click on “save”.
- Once you have a few notecards, you will begin to see patterns in your information. You can create tags for similar card ideas. You can type in a tag, and once you have it, you can select the tag in “my tags” for other cards later on. This will help you organize your thoughts for your paper.
