Directions:  Choose 2 books to read from two different categories from the multi-cultural selection list.  After you have finished reading the two books, write a 3 page critique.  Critiques should use the following guideline and be typed/double-spaced/Times New Roman/ 12 font. 
I.                     Critique Component  - page 1
Each bullet represents a paragraph!
·         Critique the book you’ve read by deciding if it was an enjoyable book that kept you engaged throughout the entire story.
o   Give supporting details for your opinion
·         Decide/Explain whether or not the author got his/her point (message) across in the novel.  Can you figure out what the theme and author’s purpose was?  Be sure to state it in this paragraph!
·         Decide/ Explain if the book was well written using descriptive language, figurative language, and details.
o   Give example/quotes from the book as evidence of your argument!
o   No examples = No credit
II.                  Compare/Contrast Connection – page 2
Each bullet represents a paragraph!
·         Discuss the similarities between the two novels that you choose to read.  Although they were from different cultural groups, did they have anything in common?
o   Give supporting details for your opinion
·         Discuss the differences found within the two works.  What caused the distinctions?  Was it solely the result of the cultural group that was being discussed or was it a product of the traits portrayed by the characters?  Did gender play a role?
o   Give supporting details for your opinion
o   No examples = No credit
III.                Reader Connection – page 3

·         Explain how you could relate to the protagonist (main character).
o   Try to find some connection to the conflict in the story or the way they handle the conflict. (man vs. self, man vs. man, man vs. nature)
·          Was the main character’s life or situation the same or different from your own life experiences?
·         Discuss how the books made you feel and whether or not you would recommend these novels for someone else to read.  Rate the books out of *5 stars*.
